SEGV (Blank/black screen) after using unity8-desktop-session-mir for some time

While experimenting with the click support for the desktop I hit the following issue: unity8 vanishes and my screen turns blank/black and all I have is a mouse cursor (that I can move around just fine). I did not do any VT switches or anything else unusual.

I see a bunch of:

in dmesg but that seems unreleated. Nothing in syslog. I have:

This sounds like unity8 stopped and only unity-system-compositor is left around, do you see a unity8 .crash file or something?

Thats correct, I can not see a unity8 process anymore and there is a crash file. update-notifier couldn't connect to X (no suprise here ;) so it did not report it itself, but I used apport-cli now to send it.

With my full up-to-date uptopic system I get a crash file. Unfortunately it seems to be corrupted:
