Hi all,
I the same issue, but running unity --replace or --reset does not fix the problem for me. Sometimes these commands don't do anything as compiz appears to have crashed. If I do compiz --replace, I can run unity --replace and --reset, and I do get something displayed (e.g. a terminal without decoration at the top left), but nothing more. After reboot it's all gone again and I get just the wallpaper.
