Bug Description

When the current application is gnome-terminal hitting ALT to get HUD and then typing 'new tab' gets you the option of a new tab. Selecting this option in HUD gives me 2-3 new tabs in the application.

I've experienced the same problem with opening new tabs in Chrome.

I am able to reproduce this behaviour with <ALT>[wait]new tab[wait]<ret> in chromium-browser and firefox where I get 2 tabs reproducibly. With a gnome-terminal I get three lots of the paste buffer from <ALT>[wait]paste[wait]<ret>.
