windows appear under unity launcher

Upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 alpha 2. Windows open maximized but under the launcher at the left side of the screen when the launcher is in the always visible mode.

Pressing the maximize button on the window (top menu bar) causes the window to correctly un-maximize. Then pressing maximize again causes the expected behavior of the the window maximizing up to the edge of the launcher, but not underneath it.

After doing this for one window, all windows seem to work properly now. It acts as if the launcher, when unity first loads, does not reset the screen boundaries.
