Bug Description

affects unity
Running Unity 5.0 in precise, I have encountered an usual bug with currently running applications being locked/unlocked from the launcher, where currently running applications do not get shown on the launcher until one logs out. The below instructions require that you have a freshly logged in session, and the test application of choice not already on the launcher.
To reproduce:
1. Load an application, gnome-terminal is what I used for my testing. Notice that you get the visual indicators for a window being open, and your loaded application of choice showing as the active application.
2. Close the application, the application icon should disappear from the launcher.
3. Load the application again, checking that it shows its activity and window status.
4. Lock the application to the launcher.
5. Load the application again, and notice that the window and activity status is not shown on the launcher.
6. Unlock the application from the launcher. Notice that the icon disappears from the launcher.
This may only occur with the application you have just added/removed from the launcher, or it may affect all apps loaded after the unlock point above, I haven't tested this far yet.

I tried the same steps with gedit, and yes, I was able to reproduce the issue. With me, there's an empty launcher icon space left after the pinned Gedit launcher icon as seen in the screenshot.
Notice that there are no visual cues signifying a running window for either the empty space or the pinned gedit icon. Clicking the gedit icon opens up another gedit instance, again without any cues. Clicking the empty space does nothing.
