Bug Description

Just upgraded to 11.10. Sometimes I get a large orange rectangle that covers half of the screen. It is transparent and appears to have something to do with the launch menu. All though the rectangle can appear on the right or left side. When it happens the mouse pointer had just touched that edge of the screen. It will just stay there on the screen, even if I show the launch menu and still persist. If use expo mode to see all the desktops then it will go away after 3 seconds. Then back to normal until it happens again.

I have a nVidia GeForce 8600GT video adapter using the recommended drivers. I used nvidia-settings to change OpenGL to high performance mode. But it also happened when setting was as at the default of Quality.

I think I have seen this on another machine running 11.10 but it has an Intel integrated video adapter.

I consider this more of a nuisance bug than anything else.

It seems like a window is snapped to the left or right side. Are you dragging/moving any windows when this happens?

No, I do not recall ever moving a window when this happens. In fact I
very rarely move a window. I usually have windows maximised to screen
size and run different apps on various virtual desktops. I have set
Unity to have 9 virtual with 1 desktop configured.

I can also confirm the problem exists on the Intel video as well.
Because it just happened.

The orange rectangle though has the same appearance like a window being
resized larger. When I move a window the color and transparency doesn't
change. But it does when I resize a window.

Hope it helps.

Yeah, you can reproduce this very easy.

1) have an application on full screen
2) move mouse to launch menu...

3) feel like a raped user...

4) Optional, but I did it - smash your keyboard and scream!

5) Optional, but I did it - consider moving away from this shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can confirm that this behavior has been happening to me since migration to Oneiric. To be more precise, this is the orange "effect" that appears underneath a window when it is "snapped" to the left or top of the screen to maximize it.

It can be triggered by moving the mouse to the left side and is triggered before Dash appears. Using Expo Key <Super-s> s to display the workspaces and move the mouse a bit will make the effect disapear.

I can confirm this either. This behavior affects on all of my Ubuntu Oneiric pc's. (64 and 32 bit versions). Two with an Nvidia card and an other with an on board - none Nvidia - card. I think that this is maybe an Compiz Expo bug. When i switch between my different desktops i get large orange rectangle that covers half of the screen.
