Rick, I tried it with unity 4.20.0 setting up firefox and chromium like the way you described. In both cases the launcher reacted correctly from first login with the browser windows being maximized from login. So I'm unable to reproduce your reported bug. Do you have an updated system with the latest packages? Could you try again?

Anyone else who might be able to reproduce this on her/his system?

For the time being (waiting for further input) I'll mark it as "Incomplete". I don't want to mark it as "Fix Released" right away, as I want to see Rick gets with an updated system.

I can still reproduce this (and bug 832150 - probably the same issue?) with current trunk (Nux r493, Unity r1692). It just doesn't seem to happen on every session start (failed 3 out of 5 times).

I am having a similar problem. After start, Launcher Edge Activation does not work. Using the workplace switcher once solves the problem for the session.

By the way, it was working fine before the update to Unity 4.22.

I am up to date. This repros for me 100% of the time. I know it effects other people as well. Please tell me what I can do to get you the debugging information that you need.

Rick, I tried it with the exact same set of enabled compiz-plugins... still I cannot trigger this bug... restarted my machine numerous times... the launcher always shows as expected. Using unity 4.22.0 now too. I don't know what else to do. Somebody else needs to look into this.

Rick, when that happen can you do xwininfo -root -tree > wininfo.log and attach that to the bug? I suspect it could either be geometry or window stacking changes.

This is after session start and manual maximization.

I guess this could be related to compiz too, since it's the one in charge for triggering the signal when the edge is touched...

I'm still getting this 100% of the time on start up. Attaching log as requested.

Setting to confirmed because this is happening to multiple people, it's reproducing reliably, and we've supplied the requested information.

likely a duplicate of bug #847024, it happens every single time there on a guest session without needed to maximize the dialog, just open a guest session, click on nautilus on the launcher, dnd the nautilus dialog close from the launcher to hide it and then try to reveal it. I got a GetState("Launcher") dump from d-feet yesterday for didrocks and Jason and it showed that the launcher doesn't see the cursor being in the edge apparently, Jason said he was working on it but didn't get news since

On the duplicate bug I also mentioned that right click on the desktop after login makes the problem not appear.

Right click is not enough. You need to right click folder on the desktop before you do anything else and even then it doesn't work always.

It definitely doesn't work always. Not sure anymore what and how you need to click.

I find after every session start the launcher does not appear from autohide until I press the <super> and launch a program. After this the launcher behaves correctly for the rest of the session.

I get the same behavior when starting a new session. Manually starting any application via keyboard shortcut (Super+[Number]) restores normal behavior. This should not be acceptable when forcing new desktop style.
