Bug Description

I prefer that when I engage the Dash that it show a black background. The chameleon color changes that Oneiric introduces often results in less than desirable contrast between the Dash's background and its contents. I very much prefer that the background be black like it is in Natty.

A setting should exist that let's users disable the chameleon feature. Users should be able to run the Dash with a simple Natty-like black background. Maybe compiz-config-settings-manager could contain this setting? Or maybe a gconf-editor or dconf-editor setting?

Final freeze is now in effect, maybe this will happen in 12.04.

Isn’t this a dupe of bug 837993?

@Fitoschido,

no, I don't think it's a dupe of bug 837993 because I'm asking that a setting be created that will allow users to choose whether they want to use the Chameleon background or a slightly-see-through soft-black background (similar to the background in Terminal). Essentially, a background that is constant and does not change color.

Bug 837993 is asking for a fix to a problem that is a side-effect of using the Chameleon background in Dash. I'm asking that users get the ability to disable the Chameleon background in Dash.

This seriously needs to be fixed, I'll try to find a hack for this cause neither compiz, myunity or appearance settings have anything that will get this fixed.
So far the only thing I found is increasing transparency settings in ccsm>unity>experimental that will turn the launcher black, the dash exactly as I want it and the notifications with chameleon.

As the only alternative to being annoyed and hate unity is to have a dark grey wallpaper and hate unity.
I'll try to edit/post my findings here cause there has to be some hack I can do so I don't have to hate unity.
