any window should be able to fit into a netbook screen, if not it should be scrollable at least

Bug Description

there is a couple of windows that are too large for my 10'' screen, f.e.
-the Preferences window in Nautilus
-Compiz config settings manager
-and certainly others too.
I used to work it around by decreasing the system font. and not everybody knows that you can move the window by Alt+Button 1. in windows XP, these windows move automatically up and down after you cross the half of the screen with the pointer.

in terms of this, windows is more desktop optimised... so how about a similar solution or integrate scrollability?

Hey zsolt-ruszinyak,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?

no change has been made, at least not to windows I mention in the bug description. here is a screenshot.

btw, did I mention that Compiz config settings manager's window is unpleasantly jumping up and down when clicking on it, trying to fill that little space.

I think this should be of highest priority and a solution similar to WinXP's is very professional.

X does have a panning functionality. It's unfortunately buggy when used with unity so not something that could be easily switched on, but certainly possible. Most of the work would be the window management work to enable it when appropriate.

I think this is mainly going to be a UX/Design area to decide, so am reassigning to unity.

Meantime, you may want to file bugs against particularly problematic applications, to get dialogs that fit within the screen realestate. Even with panning or scrolling, it'd obviously be preferable to be able see the full window in the screen.
