This just happened to me when I tried to change the volume in the applet at the top. The keyboard shortcuts work though, just the slider bar locks up my computer.

Exactly what Brandon said happened to me. This is just like the last unity-panel-service bug that was apparently fixed. In the past, the slider was not controllable. It would go by itself the rest of the way to the end. Now, I can actually move it just a notch, and drag it to specific points. But after a second of draging it around, it got stuck and crashed again.

So, it looks like the bug is getting narrowed down, but still not completely fixed.
