Bug Description

It happened by itself, not after a particular update or boot. First it happened for a single icon but then for all. I did a reboot to see if the ATI drivers might be misbehaving but its still there after the reboot. If I click on a icon, its ghost counterpart disappears as long as the dropdown is displayed.

I have been asked to report it as a bug - http://askubuntu.com/questions/51784/unity-tray-panel-shows-icon-as-split-into-two

do you have systray enabled? please run the command below, logout and login again and see if the problem happens for you still

Yes! I had systray enabled at that time. The problem got fixed by itself when I did something which caused it to refresh everything. Can't recall properly but it has something to do with theme setup. Not a simple theme change, but reselecting/refreshing the default theme in some sense, I am not sure. Sorry!
