I can reproduce the behaviour, it appears everytime something is dragged.

This might be a feature, it is possible to drag an Directory from Desktop to the Trashbin (in the launcher). Nevertheless there is no action possible with a dragged text in the launcher. This action shout be implemented or the behaviour shout be changed.

I should precise few more things :

The bug is embarassing when firefox is maximized ( mentionned difficulty to drag and drop a link in left list of favorite bookmarks )

I tried to reproduce it whith another drag ( i.e a link in a message in maximized thunderbird ) and launcher didn't appear .

If I try to drop the link from firefox to the launcher .. this one freezes a few seconds .

Seems like enough information (easily reproducible) for a developer to work on this so setting to triaged and medium importance as it is a usability issue in a core Ubuntu application.

It effectively makes dropping the bookmark into the leftmost folder on the bookmarks toolbar impossible.

More info:

When the launcher pops out all of the icons are bright so if the purpose of the launcher popping out was to show the user which applications will accept the drop then shouldn't just the ones that would accept it be highlighted? In any case dropping the bookmark on the launcher just freezes it (as per another bug that I filed a while ago) so this is definitely, definitely a bug

summary: - drag a bookmark from urlbar in Firefox makes Launcher appear
+ Dragging a bookmark from the URL bar in Firefox makes the Launcher

Also, when I got this issue I generally save the link using the "bookmark star" in the URL bar. Then I do Ctrl+B and try to drag-drop the new bookmark to some folder but that doesnt work

The launcher appears with every application I've tried and it's almost always annoying when maximized. Most of the time I don't want to drag anything to the launcher but to the app itself where I am, so this behaviour only gets in my way.

Could a solution be to reveal the launcher only after moving the mouse to the screen's edge (while still dragging)?

Bug is still present on my oneiric but if i drag and drop a tab in my bookmark instead of trying ton drag and drop from urlbar. Launcher doesn't move and remains hidden.

There was a seperate bug (#818726 ) for tabs in Firefox that was fixed. But for it's still impossible to drag them to the first position in the bookmark bar (I actually use a vertical bookmark on the left making it really cumbersome to add a bookmark).
Please change this behaviour.

I can confirm this bug in Oneiric with Chrome browser. If I try to move a bookmark, or add from urlbar to bookmarks-bar my mouse pointer hangs until Unity panel is shown. Sometimes this makes impossible to add a bookmark to the bokkmarks-bar.

I think the solution could be to enable drag&drop to Unity only when pressing Super (or Alt) key.

Anybody working on this bug? Isn't that a bug easy to erase?
It's been in Ubuntu for quite a long time now so please can someone fix it?

This is really a maddening bug... it's annoying enough that I keep switching away from Unity to avoid it. However, I'm not entirely sure what the correct behavior *should* be.

I understand why the Unity bar pops open, but perhaps it would be better if you have to actually drag the bookmark to the edge of the screen (like what it takes to open it normally) instead of it popping open pre-emptively?
