Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

I'm using a laptop with 1440x900 resolution as primary screen and an external monitor with 1600x1200 as secondary screen.

Since the upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 when I maximize a window on the primary screen it disappears and only the title bar remains visible.

My laptop is an HP EliteBook 6930p with an ATI Mopbility Radeon HD 3400.

Check the attached screenshots to see exact the problem.

Right now I have 2.6.38-8-generic x86_64 installed.

Hi,

I should be able to confirm this as I have the exact same hardware, but just need a few pieces of info:

1.) Are you using radeon or fglrx driver? (lspci -vvnn | grep radeon, if you don't see anything try fglrx)
2.) Is the monitor connected by the VGA port on the laptop itself or through base station?

Thanks,

Hi,

Here's the result of both commands:

$ lspci -vvnn | grep radeon
 Kernel modules: fglrx, radeon

$ lspci -vvnn | grep fglrx
 Kernel driver in use: fglrx_pci
 Kernel modules: fglrx, radeon

I'm using the VGA port on the laptop but the same happens at home using the DVI output on the base station.

Thanks, that's all the info I need. I'll install fglrx drivers and try reproducing it.

Hello,

i got the same problem as Sérgio Bessa. My enviroment is:

- Thinkpad x220 4290-w1b (Intel HD Graphics 3000), Ubuntu 11.04 x64
- external Monitor Samsung 2343BW @2048x1152, connected via VGA

This problem arises, when my primary screen (notebook) is configured to be under my secondary screen (external Monitor). When my primary screen is left of my secondary screen everything works fine.

For "lspci --vvnn" i think the following lines may be interesting:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

 Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
 Capabilities: <access denied>
 Kernel driver in use: i915

Hope that information may help. Thanks,

Andreas

Howzit,
Just noting that I have the same problems.

Ubuntu 11.04 - i386, Asus R1F

Primary Screen via VGA1, Secondary onboard Intel card.

If Grid (Ctrl+Alt+ [NumPad]) that would totally make my life... Its the most useful plugin so far :P

Hmm, sorry but we're not making SRUs for the Natty version anymore. Can I ask you to test the new beta of Oneiric and report whether the problem still occurs. Thanks for your feedback.
