Bug Description
Currently, Unity puts the launcher bar on whatever monitor the X server considers the "primary". This is suboptimal for many multimonitor setups, and downright problematic for some, particularly if you switch back and forth between two monitors that are connected all the time. For example, in my home theater I have a large, bulb-based rear projection TV, and when I just want to listen to music or play with configuration settings, I save bulb hours by instead using a small LCD monitor off to the side. Simply having both active, and independently usable would be most ideal, but currently, to start programs, I need to have whichever display is the "primary" turned on so I can see the launcher bar.
My current workaround is to switch between the two using the NVIDIA binary driver's MetaModes feature, but this still requires me to remember to switch back to the small monitor before turning off the TV.
