Cannot click on certain items

This issue can be demonstrated for example in Gnucash: creating a Transfer by right-clicking on an account, entering 1 as the amount and trying to select a Transfer to blocks me from clicking certain account for selecting them. Resizing the window usually fixes the problem, suggesting a rendering issue.

The scrollbar of this list of accounts behave similarly. Firefox 4, when loading a page with many links, often blocks me from clicking on some of them (not even showing a different pointer). This lead me to believe the bug is in the window manager and not in the single applications.
