Bug Description

When I maximaze a window, the unity menu panel normally is hidden automatically. In the moment the menu bar is permanently visible and part of the maximized window is covered by the menu bar, so you cannot read anything in the window.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu 11.04 i 386

 Step to reproduce it:

1) Open LibreOffice Writer
2) Add a picture (Insert> Picture> From File ...)
3) Move the image around

Suddenly the bar is shown and Unity will no longer disappear.
The only way to make it work properly is to close LibreOffice Writer

I have the same issue with qt designer 4.7.2 on unity 3.8.14.
Unable to say what exact steps are needed to reproduce.
After using qt for 1-2 hours the unity bar is shown (for no apparent reason) and doesn't hide until qt designer is closed.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu 11.04 x86_64. After 2-3 hours of work (with LibreOffice, AdobeReader, Evince ...) the left unity menu doesn't hide automatically. Sometimes it's helped to switch to another desktop (workplace) and then to turn back.

Same problem here, but I don't know whether it happens due to some software or it is random. I normally work with libreoffice, firefox and thunderbird running simultaneously. But when it occurs, the only way I figure out to be effective to get the launchpad hiding working properly is, believe or not, dragging and dropping some e-mail from one directory to another in thunderbird window. For experience, I changed from the dodge windows mode to the autohide mode, to test I get the bug again.

Same problem here.

I'm using two monitors. The smaller of the two has the menu bar on its left edge.

It's starting to drive me a bit crazy, as it obscures a valuable part of the screen. Maybe it's possible to hide the menu bar manually? If not - perhaps this would be a good feature?

I think Firefox might have something to do with the problem, as it seems that when I close it, the menu bar / launcher auto-hides.

I'm running Firefox 5.0.

Can anyone confirm this?

+Luke Whitmore, also running Firefox 5.0 on Ubuntu 11.04. Closing Firefox and maximizing a different window (Netbeans) did not cause the launcher to auto-hide.

I've found how to unlock when the problem start. You should open your web browser and you drag an image anywhere.... (under google chrome it work with favorites)

still a bug in 11.10
At some point the unity bar will stay visible unless you select "fullscreen" (for example in firefox). The normal behaviour is that the bar is hidden whenever a window is maximized.
