Bug Description

Steps to reproduce using Natty.
1. Select an email in Thunderbird containing a linked URL
2. Click the link
3. A browser opens (Chromium in my case) with the Window at the top/front of my screen

What I'd expect to happen: Window title and application menus would be for my browser (Chromium)
What actually happens: Window title and application menus are still for Thunderbird

Since Thunderbird still has focus, my usual keyboard shortcuts and arrow keys that I use for my browser don't work ... unless there's a corresponding function in Thunderbird.

Additional notes
- Only see in Unity 2D
- I sometimes see this same result when clicking ALT-TAB to switch between applications.

Thank you for your bug report, is that specific to unity or do you get the same in a classic GNOME session with compiz? That seems rather a compiz issue

I would guess that it is the same as bug #677216 we have in Unity 2D, which happens also in a classic GNOME session.

it seems different, there is only one workspace in that bug description and the dialog opens where it should, it just fails to be selected it seems

@seb128: I tested this in Ubuntu Classic and don't see the issue. It's only happening in Unity 2D.

@seb128: Should this but be switched to the unity-2d product?

This is extremely annoying.
I have thrown mail around more than once because I started typing stuff for Firefox while Thunderbird still had the focus.

Is this a consistent problem or are there people who does not experience this problem (using unity-2d)?

This is very easy to reproduce and I'm surprised there's so much confusion here:

Steps to reproduce:

1.) Close all windows
2.) Open Firefox
3.) Open Thunderbird
4.) Click on a link in a mail.

Expected result:

Firefox window has focus

Actual result:

Thunderbird still has focus

Changed in unity (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
summary: - URL from Thunderbird doesn't give browser focus when clicked
+ URL from Thunderbird doesn't give browser focus when clicked if browser
+ window isn't minimised

The reason I think this is a bug is because if the Firefox window is *minimized* then it gets brought to the foreground and receives focus. Note that this behaviour is not specific to Thunderbird either. Launching a Firefox window from terminal with 'firefox page.html' also exhibits the same behaviour.
