Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

The difference between the "normal" and "demands attention" Icons (after the animation has settled) is not very visible, leading to chat messages getting ignored for extended periods of time.

The attached screenshot shows the difference between the "normal" and "demands attention" buttons.

Perhaps a larger (configurable) glow size could be done, or even the glow or background colour changed, or perhaps a more contrasting colour used in the triangular indicator?

In Unity 2D for Ubuntu 10.10, the icon always shake to demand attention, but in 11.04 only shake a couple of seconds. The behaviour of 10.10, demand truly attention.
Other behaviour is that the blue arrow use a horizontal move, forward and backward many times.

The simplest solution would be intensify the color of the triangle.

This is also an issue in Precise, especially when using autohide for the launcher.

I think the glow effect should be intensified and/or made larger, and it should extend past the edge of the launcher such that it is visible from the edge of the screen even when the launcher is hidden. This would also clue the user as to which part of the side of the screen to move the mouse to in order to get right at the icon needing attention.

Perhaps the glow should pulsate too, so that it doesn't look like a mere discoloration on the side of the screen.
