Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

If you follow the following steps, launcher get stuck and won't show when pushing upper left corner :

1) install Freemind
2) open it and maximize
3) launcher hides, but won't show again when mouse goes to upper left corner

Clicking on the ubuntu logo button, or de-maximizing freemind will make the launcher show again.

Same happen with Ganttproject (a java application that is not packaged but that I launch with a shell script).

Still broken with latest update, unity 3.8.10-0ubuntu1

In fact, if you click on the BFB, it will open the dash and give it focus, BUT it is hidden under the freemind.

If I type (blindly) 'gedit' and hit enter, it will open gedit.

Franck, I cannot install freemind on my system atm as I only have 180mb disk left(yeah, I should have done better with partitioning :p) but when you say maximized do you mean fullscreen, from what I get from comment#2 you seem to be facing bug 749766

It certainly looks very similar...
Freemind in not in fullscreen mode although, it is maximized, but it might well be related problems anyway.

Don't know if we should mark this bug as duplicate ?

I changed the description of the bug, as it seems that in fact launcher works, but it has a wrong "z-index".

- clicking on BFB open the dash and gives it focus, but it is hidden under the freemind window
- alt+F1 will enable keyboard navigation in the launcher (but still hidden under Freemind)
- having mouse on upper left corner might make the launcher appear, but sill, under the freemind window (so I have no clue if it is working or not)

Notice that un-maximizing Freemind and re-maximizing it will fix the problem, until freemind is closed and opened again.

The problem also appears with Ganttproject, so it is not related to Freemind per-se. Both applications are java apps.

Yeah, I think it's part of some remaining compiz stacking issue.

Thanks for the report, It's clearly a dup of bug #749766 then. I'll mark it as such and add a comment to tell that it's reproducible clearly easy with freemind :)
