Workspace and Trash Launcher icons being reset to old style during session

Binary package hint: unity

At login getting the new style icons, during use they are being reset to previous
(at login am seeing ones as seen in this bug, post 1, group 2
bug # 745555
Can cause at will by running update- manager, if an update is available then the icons reset after using the auth pop up
(or if none are then downgrading a non involved package so one is
I believe other pop ups can also cause and possibly other events
