Actually icon is there, but only most right(or left) 1 pixel column is shown.
It's hardly discoverable, but clickable and working.

Correct for both gnome and unity panels.

Also, totally randomly, icon appears fully.

On classic desktop (11.04, beta 2) notifications area works fine, only skype icon is showing just one pixel..
Workaround: ALT+F2 >> killall gnome-panel fixes it until next time X:

Issue affects any white-listed systray icon.
Both unity and classic-gnome are affected.

Restarted session without reboot, usually is ok.
I guess applications startup timings are to blame for randomization effect.

I've been having this (or similar) problem since installing 11.04. I'm not using Unity, I'm using the standard gnome UI.

My icons for Skype and the HP print driver are single pixel white dots centered vertically at the left edge of the notification area, and I can get them to respond if I carefully click on the pixel.

Restarting the panel will sometimes bring them back. Sometimes it takes several restarts, and sometimes only one icon will come back.

I am using dual monitors, if that matters. But transparency of the panels has no effect, unlike another report in bug #755234.
