Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

To reproduce this, open the Applications or Files lense directly. (This probably works for any lense, actually, except the built in home and global search lenses).

Make a search that has no results.

Note the rather horrifying message in response: “Your search did not” in the Applications lense, “Your search did” in the File lense.
I looked at the translation for my locale: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/unity-place-applications/+pots/unity-place-applications/en_CA/17/+translate

Looks like the string is all there, but Unity is rendering it poorly.

It definitely works fine here. Are you running custom installations of Nux or Unity or is everything the latest official packages?
