global menus don't work well on small screens

I have 11.04 installed on my eeePC 701, which has a small screen. When you load a program that has a longer menu, like Audacity, a good portion of the menu disappears behind the panel / system tray, and there's no way to access it.

Does pressing Alt + (underlined key of a menu) and then moving sideways with the arrow keys, help?
