I was trying todays ubuntu daily live (i386) built, from a usb stick. I had my laptop connected to a tv-monitor before booting up.

Compiz crashed when unintentionally the vga cable connecting the tv-monitor with my laptop disconnected (the system had already fully booted and both my laptop screen and the tv-monitor where showing the desktop...).
