Bug Description

In a fres user account with unity running, it possible to freeze up the desktop when moving through indicators with the keyboard, as follows:

1. Log into unity.
2. When on the desktop, press F10 to focus the top menu bar, on the first indicator.
3. Use the right arrow to scrub through all menus/indicators, and you will notice that you can cycle through them.
4. Move back yto your starting position when you focused the top menu, i.e the left most indicator.
5. Press left arrow, and watch unity-panel-service CPU usage skyrocket, and the desktop freeze solid.

Can you please run it under strace, to see what it's doing to consume the CPU? Here this doesn't happen, so not sure what the problem is

When I open nautilus, it consumes almost 100% cpu and so does unity-panel-service. Nautilus takes at least 20 seconds to respond to any command (change folder, expand folder tree, etc.), taking the cpu to 100% each time.

I don't know how to run unity-panel-service through strace. I tried "strace unity-panel-service" but unity-panel-service is not a command. I ran nautilus through it but strace exits before nautilus is closed, so I don't know if it is of any help. Let me know if you'd like me to run any specific command.

I think this bug should be switch to track any 100% CPU issue, I've fixed the hang when pressing left on desktop after F10 and tracked it in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/756867 .
