2011-04-07 17:51:26 Omer Akram description Binary package hint: unity Test case: Running unity, create a launcher (the other kind of launcher) on the desktop for e.g. gnome-terminal, give it name, e.g. 'Terminal'. Drag the "launcher" on the desktop to the "Launcher" panel. You should now have a shortcut and it's tooltip should be the name you gave it. Right-click it, unselect "Keep in Launcher". Drag the desktop "launcher" to the "Launcher" panel again. A shortcut should but created, but isn't. The Launcher hasn't yet forgotten the previous "launcher". Now, rename the desktop shortcut to e.g. "Terminal2", drag it to the "Launcher" panel. A shortcut is created again. The behavior is the same for applications dragged from the dash. I used the desktop example to demonstrate that it's using the name of the shortcut, and this is what it is not being recycled after removing something from the Launcher panel. Interestingly, you can rename the shortcut again, e.g. Terminal3 and then, without dragging it into the Launcher, start the application. The application does not show up in the Launcher as a running application despite having a new name. I.e. to determine if an application is running, the binary name (or some other unique information) is used, but to keep an icon in the Launcher, just the name of the shortcut is used. The same is true for applications started from the dash. This seems different from bug 747316, because there is no freeze here. Unity responds to the drop, but then recognizes the dropped icon as a duplicate, despite the previous icon having been deleted, and therefore does not add it to the Launcher. Also this is specific to the particular application. I can drop any new shortcuts successfully. But I cannot add shortcuts for any application that I have previously removed.
