2011-04-06 09:38:42 Bilal Akhtar summary Unity's ALT+F2 lacks functionality present in Gnome 2.XX Pressing <enter> in Unity Alt+F2 sometimes passes incomplete command
2011-04-06 09:39:40 Bilal Akhtar description Binary package hint: unity Steps to repeat: 1. Press ALT+F2 2. start typing a command What happens: 3. The launcher displays various commands, but requires that you use tab or the mouse to get to them. 4. Pressing enter without the complete command entered means nothing happens What should happen: 1. The launcher should, like the one in Gnome 2.XX, try to find the entry in /usr/bin which you're typing the name of. 2. When it has figured it out, it should show the text after the text entry cursor, perhaps slightly faded to show that it is merely a suggestion. 3. Pressing enter should then execute the suggested command. 4. If the user continues to enter text, the suggestion should slowly be replaced by what the user enters if it matches, and disappear if it doesn't. 5. Pressing tab with the suggestion displayed should complete the command according to the suggestion, but not execute it, allowing the user to add options. Click on it with the mouse. 4) Close the xlogo window that appears 5) <Alt-F2> 6) Quickly type 'xeyes<enter>' Expected Behaviour: - 1 xlogo window appears - 1 xeyes window appears. Actual Behaviour: - 2 xlogo window appears. It seems that this <alt-f2> run dialog is not implemented as a run dialog, but an active incremental search dialog, and the <enter> stops the search from running and simply runs the last match. If you type the command name too quickly, the search never functions at all, and the previous search result from the previous invocation is used.
