Bug Description

When mouse is over the menu button (top left of the screen), the Unity launcher is shown, but is translucent and no interaction can be done with it. A user has to first click on the menu button in order to the Launcher be interactive.

The Launcher being shown, even if translucent, makes a user believe he can interact with it. Moving down its mouse pointer over the Launcher, without having clicked on the menu button, makes Unity Launcher disappear.

If a blurred Unity Launcher is visible and the mouse pointer goes over it, Unity Launcher should become fully opaque and be interactive -- a user should be able to click icons in Unity Launcher.

Not sure if this is of any help; but here goes:
Only when you hover over the top left hand corner of the menu button does the launcher become fully opaque and "usable".
It is quite confusing to see a semi transparent launcher which has no real use, except maybe to see which applications are running.

What makes me think that this is more a defect than per design is the fact that when you hover out from the top left corner of the menu button to the right hand corner, it does not lose opacity.

It took me forever to figure out that my mouse pointer has to be *right in the top left corner* to get Unity to show. I kept putting it on the Ubuntu icon at the left, in which case you get the opaque half showing Unity. Now if you click on that you get the application search screen instead.

That in itself is buggy. if you enter a random string it doesn't show anything, and the only way to get out is to click on the top panel bar. Even click on popup messages is ignored while the run app window sits there hidden.

video of my struggles getting the launcher to show attached.
its particularly hard in a dual monitor setup with the launcher in the middle as the top left of the button is difficult to hit
