Bug Description

To Reproduce:

1. Install Ubuntu, and log in for the first time.
2. Go to the Dash Home, and type "gwibber" (without quotes).

What happens:
- Two results appear with the same icon underneath the "Apps" category header: "Gwibber Social Client" and "Broadcast Preferences".

Desired solution:
- "Gwibber Social Client" should be displayed underneath the "Apps" category header on a fresh Ubuntu install
- "Broadcast Preferences" should not be displayed at all

MPT, when I click the Massaging and VoIP Accounts icon, I get the accounts dialog. Empathy I get the contact list.

@John: How is this "Fix Committed"? I can see a few possible resolutions here:

 a) Wont fix/Invalid - We accept to be in the mercy of upstream here and do nothing
 b) Create a variant for one of the icons which we distro patch in

Under all circumstances I think we need to hear the upstream voice on this...

A 'C' solution would be to just disable applications preferences and settings items to come in search results of dash and leave it all to gnome-control-center. That would make search results cleaner IMO.

we should just distro patch empathy and gwibber to not show their settings and preferences in the search, (that was done for gwibber at one stage)

Would the suggestion for gwibber be to stop shipping separate launchers for preferences, accounts and the client? Ideally we would embed gwibber-preferences in control-center.

If Gwibber uses the same accounts as other applications (i.e. Online Accounts), those accounts should go in System Settings. If it doesn't, they shouldn't. Either way, I agree the right solution is not to have separate launchers for application vs. preferences/accounts.

The empathy side of the issue got fixed in quantal by dropping empathy-preferences.desktop (the preferred way to configure account is uoa)

@seb128; just read this bug, the title said there were two instances of *gwibber*, not empathy. However the description talked about empathy!

I've updated the bug to consistently mention gwibber, not empathy - this is still an issue.
