Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

If you have Firefox maximized and you move your mouse pointer to the top bar, the title disappears. (I don't know if this is the supposed behaviour).

If you don't have Firefox maximized and you move the pointer to the top bar, the title "Firefox 4.0 Beta 10 Web Browser" changes to "Firefox 4" with a gradient starting just before the "4" and all the rest of the strings disappears.

If you open Terminal and move your mouse to the Unity top menu bar it displays the word
"Terminal" with a gradient starting in "al" and then Terminal's menu bar starts.
I suppose that the top bar should only display the menu bar or at least, don't overwrite the title with the menu bar.

Thank you for your bug report.
The bug that the menu bar of firefox isn't shown in the top bar is known. The actual behaviour you describe is almost the good (ie the one wanted by the design team), everything is done to show the menu bar, it is just not displayed.... In the final release, the patch correcting this should be integrated, but you can test it already by following this procedure : http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/01/global-menu-support-for-firefox-in-ubuntu-11-04-gets-going/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+d0od+%28Omg!+Ubuntu!%29 .
Does this resolve your problem? Else could you please post attachments with screen shots explaining the problem, and what should happen?
I set the bug status to incomplete, waiting for your answer. Please put it back to new when you post this attachments.

Here are the screen shots you asked for.
I hope they are clear enough.

This is what happens when I hover the mouse to the top bar.
As you can see, part of the string gets erased.

Another example, this time with the Take Screenshot application.
You can read "Take Screenshot" but if you hover the mouse to the top top the string gets erased as you can see from the next screenshot.

As you can see, you can only read "Take Scr" and then the File menu item appears.
I suppose the correct behaviour would be to completely remove the title string and place File in the beginning of the bar.

Thanks!
So as I said, for Firefox, this is the normal behaviour. You should test this and if even when it work ( I mean that firefox works as others windows, showing the menubar when the pointer is over the top bar) you think it's a bug, you should discuss it on the ayatana mailing list, as this is not a bug but a design issue.
Then, say me if you agree. there are finally two bugs in yours. The first is the one I describe just before about firefox. The other is with the menu bar shown in the top bar, for windows that doesn't have menu bar normally (like screen shot, apport probably, and few others). That's it?

Yes, one is about Firefox, the other is about ALL other apps, since the menu bar of each app gets on top of a portion of the title bar of that app in the top bar like you can see in the screenshots.
The example was just for Firefox and Take Screenshot but it works with any other app.

If for others app, it display the good menu bar (with the good menu), and just hide a part of the title when you have the mouse on the top menu bar, this is supposed to work like this, so I suggest you to discuss directly on the ayatana mailing list here https://launchpad.net/~ayatana , were someone will be able to say if this bug should stay invalid, or become wishlist, as it's not really a bug. If others windows doesn't show their menu as they should, please open a new bug about it.
