Hardly any possibility to personalize Unity (12.04)

People can't personalize there own digital working environment. Personalize is I think the power of Linux and if you take that away could cause a drastic reduction of the use of Ubuntu at home and in business.

Some examples:
People can not
-- add applets/indicators to panels
-- change position of panels
-- change the position of indicators
-- change thickness of panels

They might be able to do this in a really difficult way but that does not take away, that it is non user-friendly

I do a lot of audiovisual activities (eg video and audio editing)

You can always use the gnome environment, as in 10.10

The CPU frequency applet is a reasonable requirement, and it will be
recreated as an indicator. If you'd like to help out with that and

Launchers can be added and removed from the launcher (right click and check or uncheck keep in launcher)

I'm not really sure what you mean by change the menus

Why would you like to add launchers to the top panel? That's what the left panel if for, but it is combined with a window switcher.

But the Install CD size is not enough if you want to create some new functions in the future in Unity.

Just talking about personalization, I don't know if this is the right place
but, Why isn't there any indicator or applet by default in the Ubuntu
Installation that can help us to eject a mass USB storage device???...It's
pretty confusing and annoying to open nautilus every time we need to eject a
USB Pendrive.

THIS is the top reason why the acceptance of unity in the community is reduced. (although it looks awesome.) people using linux love configuring their interface their selves. if i can't i can buy a apple as well. configurability is what makes linux better than other operating systems!

adding to the inital report some other things you can't do in unity:

 * adding folder for launchers.
 * adding launchers with options. (e.g., I used the command line tool disper to switch between several screen states. that only works with options such as
disper -r "1920x1080" -c
I don't know how to add such a launcher in unity.

One perspective I'd like to add on the configurability or lack thereof of the launcher panel is that for those with triple head systems, it'd be great to be able to place one on the middle screen.

At the moment with Gnome 2, I have top panels on each monitor with the same applets, menus, etc. so that if I only require one monitor for a particular minimalist work flow I can fire up the middle one and still have a usable environment. If I then require a second or third screen I can power them on at will.

With the panel being forced to the leftmost edge of the leftmost screen I'm forced to use at a minimum the left most screen which is an ergonomic nightmare. :)

I'd love to be able to have one on each screen but would still find it useful to have only one on the middle screen if possible.

I believe there's an xml file somewhere I can mod to position the panel at the moment but it'd be great to have a GUI based option somewhere.

And here's why Skype works.. seems that perhaps others can be White-listed using set, though I am not sure I like this vs true indicator support

Yep, this is an absolute must. In fact, dare I say one of the reasons I personally prefer Unity over Gnome-Shell is the increased ability to configure things. Unity should pride itself on it's ability to allow users to personalise it, if they choose.
