Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Here are the exact steps I take to cause the problem:

1. Open any program. I'll use the Calculator program for this example.
2. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select "Pin To Launcher"
3. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select "Quit". (The Calculator program quits and the Calculator icon is still pinned to the dock as expected)
4. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select "Pin To Launcher" (The Calculator icon on the dock disappears as expected)
5. Open the Calculator program.

The icon will not appear in the dock as expected. The Calculator program will however open as expected.

This happens with all of the programs I've tested.

Andre, thanks for testing natty and providing a good set of steps to reproduce the issue. Could you explain why you think it is a bug in X? From your description it sounds like something's wrong with your dock.

I did not know what to file it under so I put it as an 'x' issue for now. I'm still getting the hang of reporting bugs. ;)

Okay, I'm not sure what the package name is for the dock you're referring to, but from your description it sounds like you're running unity, so I'm reassigning the package there for diagnosis. It sounds sort of like a misbehavior in the window system functionality.

Regarding figuring out packages to file things against, yeah it's hard to determine for bugs like this. There's a page at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage that can help, but it seems to be a bit out of date. So probably best way to learn is keep filing bugs like you're doing. :-)

Thanks for reassigning the bug Bryce. I know for next time. :)

Update:

I found this bug on both laptops (Samsung N150 / HP Pavillion 2120ca) with the livecd. I did a full wipe and install on my Samsung and the bug was still there.
