Bug Description

Binary package hint: mutter

With Ubuntu netbook 10.10 beta, I'm getting a crash of mutter (I think - the behaviour is the same as during a reset/change of window manager, but it could be an xserver crash) when closing a pdf I'm viewing in evince.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a pdf file from within Nautilus (I used Nautilus rather than the unity browser; not sure if this matters)
2. Document will open, but top panel does not have close/minimize/unmaximize buttons or application menu
3. Clicking anywhere on the document causes the missing items in 2 to appear.
4. Clicking on the close button closes the document, and also causes mutter to crash/reset.

I also had a couple of screenlets running in the background; I'm not sure if this is relevant although my impression is that mutter doesn't handle them very well.

Thanks for reporting this bug and help to make ubuntu better/

I can't reproduce that issue in particular, but I see some other complaints about it making me think it's a bug some people are encountering.
Can you can get a backtrace (you can join on IRC, freenode #ubuntu-devel and ping me if you don't know how to do it) there?

Hi Didier,
I tried running it inside the dbg program but wasn't able to reproduce the crash. (I'm also not 100% sure I have the debugging symbols set up correctly but in any case, it didn't crash.) It seems to only crash when launched by clicking a pdf file in nautilus, and not 100% of the time. I can try again later although I'm leaving on a trip in an hour and may not have a chance.
I wonder if there's any connection to the gtk bug #626040.

Hum, bad, can you try to downgrade to the older gtk like describe in the bug and see if you still get the issue after some time?

putting this one as a dup of bug #634701 as he has more information.
@Sean: if you have any additional information, do not hestaite to put it to the other bug, all information there can be helpful.

We also investigate the gtk bug, if that can be related (thanks for pointing it).
