Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity-place-applications

I don't know if this is as designed or not, but it isn't what I expected. I click on the Ubuntu logo in the upper left, and the Places bar appears. I click on the Applications place and start Firefox. Firefox starts, and I see the application icon in the launcher. However, the Places bar and Applictions place remain. If I click on the Firefox logo the Places bar and Applications place still don't go away. I have to click on the Ubuntu logo in the upper left again to make it go away. The fact that I have to click on the Ubuntu logo again (effectively closing the Places bar) leads me to believe this is as designed, but it is unexpected and annoying.
