Calendar and system menu get clipped when switching monitors

Bug Description
I have a laptop that I use with an external monitor. When I disconnect the laptop (which has a 4K screen at 2x scale) from the monitor (1K), the unity panel widgets get cropped, as shown in the screenshot. This makes it impossible to access some menu entries such as Logout or Suspend, among others. Logging in and out fixes the issue, however `compiz --replace` does not.
System is Ubuntu 17.04.
