Bug Description
I have been using a monitor to extend the display on my laptop since Trusty. It is connected through HDMI cable to my laptop, then I extend the display instead of mirroring.
Strange things started happening after I switched to Xenial. After my screen gets locked automatically and I unlock it, I will find my windows moved around workspace windows.
If I disable workspaces, then I will have windows disappear. I then have to re-enable workspaces in order to find that they were moved to a virtual workspace window.
This is exacerbated when I try to access a window by clicking on an application in the side bar and I am taken to workspace windows that I am not familiar with. Trying to get back to previous windows then becomes a search activity.
I want to disable workspaces but I can't since I have to use the extended display.

I have experienced the same behavior. When I enabled xscreensaver on the system, the problem stopped. If I disable xscreensaver, then applications move randomly when the system locks. Was a PITA until I realized the xscreensaver workaround.
