Alt-tabbing from any wine game will freeze the game in Unity

When playing any recent Wine game while not using a Virtual Desktop in Wine, using alt-tab to switch to another application will completely freeze the game's graphics. This has recently been noticed with Darksiders 2 and Paladins.
There are a few games that won't crash when switching but those are a minority.

When using Gnome Shell, the freeze does not occur when switching from the game.
