scrollbar slider does not appear on mousehover in hidpi mode

Bug Description
I have a high density display (4k). When i set the scaling in display settings to 2 the scrollbar sliders do not appear on mouse hover.
Setting the scaling to values below '2' works as expected.
As a workaround i disabled the overlay scrollbars for now using 'gsettings set com.canonical.
System:
Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
unity 7.2.6+14.
