Ubuntu 14.04 Log Out hangs. Can't get to Login Screen

Bug Description
Toshiba Laptop C55-B5240X.
1. Log out hangs and freezes before getting to the Login Screen. Pressing the power switch will jog the system to get to the Login Screen.
2. Shutdown sometimes hangs just before shutting down. Only way out is to hold the power switch down til it's off.
Can't use 'ubuntu-bug unity' because it's not my computer.
What to to?
