Bug Description

Hardware: Thinkpad X230, but seemingly all Thinkpads.

(Apologies if this is mis-characterized as a Unity bug - not sure where to put it)

The special Thinkpad button, often called "ThinkVantage" button, used to work fine for keyboard shortcuts in 12.04, as configured in the keyboard settings panel.

In 14.04 it is possible to assign it to a shortcut in the keyboard settings dialog, where it shows up as Launch1, but it doesn't work - they shortcut is not activated by hitting that key.

The key appears to get through to the desktop and apps, because if I hit it while Emacs has focus it complains that nothing is assigned to XF86Launch1 (in 12.04 the key didn't get through to Emacs and there was no problem)

Discussion of this, including some other's outputs, is here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2222890

There is a fix in the SRU queue for #1302885 (it looks like this bug is a duplicate of that one). Please try adding the PPA at https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/landing-004 to your sources and see if it fixes this problem.

I added the PPA indicated:
"http://ppa.launchpad.net/ci-train-ppa-service/landing-004/ubuntu trusty main"
but the problem is NOT solved .

The fix for #1302885 is now available in trusty-updates. The above PPA no longer holds any Unity packages, so there's no point in testing it.

The bug should now be fixed in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and in the Vivid Vervet development release. If this problem continues to occur in one of those Ubuntu environments please update this bug.

Thank you for your prompt response.
Bug#1347638 (Use of "ThinkVantage button") continues to exist in Ubuntu 14.04 - LTS.
Unfortunately I continue to keep open the problem because I always use versions "LTS" type.
While, with live CD, I verified that in 'Ubuntu 14:10 & Unity' the bug is solved.

Today I updated the system to "Ubuntu 14.04.02".
The BUG # 1347638 is not solved.
Still it is possible to assign it ("ThinkVantage") to a shortcut in the keyboard settings dialog, where it
shows up as "Launch1", but it does not work - they shortcut is not activated by hitting that key.

Today, after upgrading the kernel 3.13.0.46 (3.3.2015) I verified that the problem is finally solved.
I remember that I have - 64-bit - Ubuntu 14:04:02 - .
Now the shortkut with "Launch1" works perfectly.
Thank You !!!
