Bug Description

I have had 9.10 on this machine for about 4 yrs, never missed a beat, had to recompile kernel on 9.10 to add in wifi driver but other than that no probs at all. now that has been removed to make way for current LTS.
Machine is totally non responsive including power button, only way to reset is hold pwr button 8 seconds for hard hardware reset
Runs flawlessly I am ashamed to admit on windoze xp,vista and 7.
The lockup happens even when there is no activity or user apps running.
Interestingly the errors on 13.04 also occur on a compaq presario I have as well, 12.04 will not install on the presario, but 13.04 will!

affects: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)
