Bug Description

To reproduce: Start VirtualBox, select Windows 7 or Windows XP machine and enable seamless mode. The lower part of screen will be cutten out as like there exists other panel.

I found that this problem appears when updated to 13.04. I used VB version 4.2.12 that time. Updated to 4.2.14 then to 4.2.16, but problem still exists. Tried Lubuntu, and this problem does not exist there. Also this problem exists in Unity from official repository. So I think it is general Unity bug.

I have the same bug with Ubuntu 13.04 and virtualbox 4.2.12 and 4.2.16 running WinXP.
Here the bug is discussed as well: http://askubuntu.com/questions/288764/windows7-virtualbox-guest-in-seamless-mode-has-bottom-clipped-off-in-ubuntu-13-0

I am suffering from the same bug. VER VER VER VER

I've found a cumbersome workaround by accident: if I start the virtual machine, put it to seamless mode and THEN enable OR disable external display, then it works correctly.

^ #4: Oops, posted that a bit too early, was supposed add: VirtualBox 4.2.12-84980, WinXP guest, Ubuntu 13.04.

If I remember correctly, this bug appeared after upgrading to 13.04.

This does not occur for me in 13.10. Could anyone else affected by this using 13.10 also confirm this?

I have not yet upgraded to 13.10, but I did upgrade VirtualBox to 4.3.0 (from 4.2). No change.

Also seems like with multi-display setup, it's even more screwed up, and the seamless mode puts the virtual machine somehow between (!) the workspaces and what remains "visible" is not being drawn right way at all:

The screenshot I attached might be confusing: virtual machine was started in workspace 1, and that is between workspaces 1 and 2. The green part is from WinXP's start menu. VirtualBox's own toolbar (or whatever it is called) shows correctly when mouse is hovered over it.

@Timo,

Very strange. I can no longer reproduce this issue as described in the original bug description on 13.10 whereas I could on 13.04. As a test, on one machine, I have the latest version 4.3.0 from Oracle using a Win XP guest and I don't see this issue. On a different machine, I have version 4.2.16_Ubuntu from the Ubuntu archive using a Win XP guest and I don't see this issue.

I think you are seeing a different issue which may be caused by your multi-monitor setup. I have a multi-monitor setup as well and it works fine, but we may have different hardware, monitor resolutions, etc. My advice is to open a new bug.

OK, as of now, in 14.04 release problem has gone. But it appeared again in gnome fallback mode.

I found this bug report as I get this issue with Ubuntu Mate 15.10 + Compiz as Host/ Win 7 as guest, on a dual monitor system.

I found disabling compiz decorations would fix the problem so it seems compiz related. In order to run with seemless mode and decorations enabled, I've found the Rules plugin can help.

Within the Compiz Rules plugin, enter "class=VirtualBox" under either Fullscreen or Maximised; now seemless mode works for me without trimming the bottom taskbar in the Win 7 guest!
