Bug Description

A small office that just converted to Ubuntu 12.10 is having problems with opening / finding open LibreOffice documents in Unity. The issue seems to be that if any arbitrary document is already open in LibreOffice, on any workspace, then clicking on the file in the file manager does nothing. The file is not opened in another instance. The running instance is not brought to the forefront. No error, warning, or notice is given. Absolutely no feedback is returned to the user, who might not be aware that another instance is running with the file already open.

From conversations on the mailing list it seems that Unity does show a small symbol next to the LibreOffice icon when the document is clicked. This went completely unnoticed by the users of Ubuntu and by myself while trying to actually work with the system. In fact, one user had resorted to reseting the computer each time she needed to open a document that "would not open".

Please change the behaviour of Unity to bring the running LibreOffice instance to the forefront when the user clicks on a document that is already open.

Thank you.

I do not know why this issue is marked for Package "gnome-keyring". I typed "unity" when filing the issue. Now that I am trying to change it to "unity" by searching in the "Choose..." field I am getting the error:
"Too many matches. Please try to narrow your search."

How could I narrow the search? So far as I know "unity" is the name of the problematic package, and the "Choose..." field is not showing me any alternatives or suggestions.

affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

This is not specific to LibreOffice, the same symptom is seen using Document Viewer on a pdf file. Though for me the (with LO or other) if the open document is on the same workspace it is brought to the front but if it is on a different workspace then it is not.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. We have tried to recreate this on the latest release of Ubuntu, but cannot reproduce it. This bug is being marked as Invalid. If you believe the problem to still exist in the latest version of Ubuntu, please comment on why that is the case and change the bug status to NEW.

If the file is minimised and then opened again from the file manager, it moves to the foreground. If the file is minimised in a different workspace, the application icon wiggles in the launcher. I think this is the intended behaviour.
