Bug Description

LibreOffice file, edit, view, history, etc, (the menu items on the top bar of Unity)
become completely empty (clicking on them produces an empty menu, no options, can only be dismissed by clicking outside of it) or misbehave (don't show correct options, stop responding, or don't do anything when clicked) after trying to use said menus while using the Equation editor.

Steps to reproduce:
- Open LibreOffice Writer.
- Go to insert->object->Formula
- When the formula editor opens, click "File" to open the File menu.
- Exit from the formula editor by clicking anywhere outside the editor.
- Do a few normal operations such as, resizing the window, maximizing the window, typing some normal text
- Go in and back out of the Equation editor once more.
- None of the LibreOffice menus in the top bar of Unity should be working properly anymore.

Hardware is an Acer Aspire S3, using Ubuntu 12.10, using the latest LibreOffice packages (updated this morning).

I can't take a screenshot of this, since having the menu open makes print screen not work.
It happens reliably every time I use Writer.

I confirm the bug with LibreOffice 4.0.1.2 (from ppa:libreoffice) on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise 64 bits.

Steps to reproduce are even more simple than what is described.

Steps to reproduce :
1 - open a new writer document
2 - write a bit of text and create a new ligne
3 - go to menu Insert > Objet > Formula
4 - Unselect the formula by two clics elsewhere on the text (no need to edit the formula)
5 - go to menu Insert : all menu lignes (or sub-menus) are grayed out except "Image" (this is normal behaviour if the formula was still selected)

How to have the menu again :
1 - save the document
2 - close it
3 - reopen it
(! once this did not work, I had to close and reopen the session)

How to "solve" the problem :
uninstall package libreoffice-gtk (and libreoffice-gnome ?), responsible for integrating libreoffice 4 into the global menu of Unity (libreoffice 4 does use package lo-menubar any more)

This bug is related to THE INTEGRATION OF LIBREOFFICE INTO UNITY'S GLOBAL MENU

I can confirm that removing libreoffice-gtk and libreoffice-gnome solves the problem. Ugly menus, but it works.

Cant reproduce on 13.10, Print Preview works too, assuming to be fixed by upstream commit 26d092b3635680248f8b176564409e6c0c24bfbf.

With a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy) - 64amd today. I got the following issue:

1. Open new Writer document.
2. Insert > Object > Formula...
3. Enter 1+1, click on the document (not the formula) to close the editor.
4. Click again to enter the mode in which you can enter text on the document.
5. Repeat step 2.

Expected:
"Formula..." menu enabled. Ready to insert a new formula on the document.

Actual:
"Formula..." menu disabled (greyed out).

Workaround:
After step 5 click the document to close the menu. Hit enter to start on a new line. Repeat step 2. Now I get what I expect.

I use the HUD which does not show the insert formula command when the menu is disabled. As Till Sachau suspected, this could be related to Bug #1045353

Version: 4.1.3.2

Thank you for your bug report. That ticket is quite old and we didn't get recent report of the problem, also it seems to work correctly now, closing. Feel free to reopen if you can still reproduce in more recent versions
