Bug Description

Since I upgrading to 12.10, Compiz is using more than 400 M of memory.
This is not a memory leak because the amount of memory is high at startup and does not increases so much. It can temporally goes over 500 M though.

This is reported against Unity because I don't reproduce this on Gnome Classic.

Note that xorg is also using a lot of memory (around 200 M, instead of 50)

unity 6.8.0
xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4
compiz 1:0.9.8.4-0ubuntu3

also, Compiz CPU usage has increased. It is always more than 10% now. Do I fill another bug report for that ?

Yes, please make CPU a different bug.

As for this one, I have to make it incomplete. Because we need some steps to make the memory high when it wasn't before. Or detailed output from a memory profiler to help us find the root cause.

Changed in unity (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Thanks Daniel,

After investigating, here are the step to reproduce :
- switch on the computer and log on. Compiz already uses around 220M (which is already twice as in 12.04)
- Open the dash for the first time : Compiz now uses 380 M of memory.
- Open the HUD for the first time : Compiz now uses 430M

I am willing to make a memory profile ! Can you indicate how to make one ? Or give me a link explaining that ?

Thank you a lot ! I think this resource footprint of compiz is what separates Unity from perfection ! Otherwise, it is just awesome !
