Bug Description

Similar to Bug #1047306, but that one has been closed as "fixed" with the same package version.

Tried downgrading unsuccessfully. Only reason I'm able to write this is that the browser comes up when reporting a bug. I've attempted downgrading to mesa 8.0.2 by apt-get install <package>=<version> for each mesa package to no effect.

this is what my Unity desktop look like. Only difference between mesa version 8 and 9 is the color of the background (8=black, 9=blue).

As a workaround, I selected "Gnome (no effects)" at the login screen.

Thanks for the bug report. It seems unity is not installed on your system. Can you please try to install unity and see if the issue is fixed for you. (sudo apt-get install unity)

OK, I'll try reinstalling unity.

Right now, after an update, looks like Quantal has dependencies problems (I'll retry later):

$ sudo apt-get install unity
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 unity : Depends: compiz-core-abiversion-20120920
Recommends: unity-lens-photos but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: unity-lens-shopping but it is not going to be installed

I've been able to complete the unity install as of today.

When I log in, problems expresses themselves by labels "ghosts" when I hover on the launch bar icons and "ghost windows" when I move or close an application.

Again, my workaround is to use Gnome Classic (no effects).
