Bug Description

Drag and Drop of browser links/location to the desktop does not work - nothing happens (although e.g. Firefox shows the correct icon before dropping).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open firefox or Chromium
2. Go to whatever website - google is good enough.
3. Drag the icon in front of the link in the location bar of the browser onto the desktop and drop it there
4. Nothing happens.

Expected behaviour: Browser link placed on the desktop.

It works when you drag & drop in the same way to a folder opened in a Nautilus window.

Could you please test again, and if it still fails, test the 12.10 live CD beta?

Don't know which update or change could have been relevant.

Sometimes I experience parts of Unity/Compiz not working any more and
I have to do a compiz --replace. I do not always immediately notice
when that happens because it might be that I am working in a remote
session for a longer while until first noticing that some hotkeys or
mouse gestures are not working any more in my host.

Is it possible that in such situation also the D&D of links to the
desktop refuses to work?

Might be an explanation because not more people are affected, because
maybe they are not having the Unity/Compiz issue.
