Bug Description

Sorry about obscure bug - anyway -

Test Case:
Set Unity launcher animation to blink -
gconftool-2 -s -t integer /apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/launch_animation 2

Add synaptic to launcher
Open synaptic from launcher, dismiss the auth window by clicking cancel or the close button
Try to open open synaptic again from launcher, nothing happens

Also seen if the root terminal is added to launcher & same scenario , haven't found any other apps that open an auth window first

confirmed with synaptic here as well. prolly the fix won't be coming from the Unity team though.

Just to also note -
Also can be seen in a non-standard use of the launcher for icons that only launch something. (an Exec= of some scripts or commands.

In that case the the icon normally would pulse or blink for a short period of time during which it can't be re-used. Once it returned to normal , typically 5 sec's, it would then be active again.
Same deal now with those, pulse works fine, with blink the icon remains inactive for the session
