Bug Description

While I have no unread Reddit messages and Reddit open in a tab in a browser, the envelope in the indicator bar is shaded blue, as if to suggest unread messages. If I click on it I have a new line in the 'Reddit' bit of the menu, which says 'Messages: 0'. If I click on that, it switches to the tab containing Reddit and colours the envelope grey again.

In traditional step-by-step form, what happens is:

0) Install unity-webapps-reddit
1) Open up reddit in Firefox
2) Observe envelope in indicator bar turn blue
3) Click on envelope in indicator bar
4) Choose either 'reddit' or 'messages: 0m' from the dropdown
5) Se no new messages in reddit
6) See envelope in indicator bar turn grey again

What I'd expect:
0) Install unity-webapps-reddit
1) Open up reddit in Firefox
2) See envelope in indicator bar turn blue only if there are some new messages, stay gray if there aren't.

This also affects me with 13.04
Apparently the unread status is initiated on every pageload on reddit.com
I don't know if it matters, but I'm using Firefox. I haven't tested this with Chrome/Chromium.

Ya, I wrote a patch for this a while ago that fixes half the problem (it doesn't seem particularly easy to fix it entirely, see #1061307) I'll check in IRC to see if this can get merged in.

Roughly when will this hit the main repos?

This patch is committed in Saucy. I think I asked to get it backported into current releases, but I don't think I got a response on that... In any case, if you're desperate to get this patch, I think you can manually get it from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+package/unity-webapps-reddit
