Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu xenial 16.04.1 with gnome-flashback.
I pick a desktop background image.
I hide desktop icons with "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false"
or using dconf-editor. The background image is still there but when I reboot, the background image is gone and the background turns black.
I can reproduce the problem without rebooting just by trying to change the background image again, it just won't do it. If I show the desktop icons back again it will show the background image I just picked.

I found a workaround for this:
$ gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-flashback desktop-background true

affects: unity (Ubuntu) → gnome-flashback (Ubuntu)

Dmitry, do you have time to debug this problem? When nautilus is not running than changing background _XROOTPMAP_ID is not changed/updated/set. Might be bug in unity-settings-daemon and/or unity-control-center.

Pablo, if you don't use nautilus desktop window then you are fine using desktop bg from gnome-flashback. :)

Looks like I don't have it...

Also if there is an easy workaround (using desktop bg from gnome-flashback) I wouldn't consider it an important issue.

Can we reassign it to unity-settings-daemon maybe?

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in gnome-flashback (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
affects: gnome-flashback (Ubuntu) → unity-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
